Contained in original grey cardboard slipcase, which shows darkening, edge wear and tape repairs.

No Jacket, as issued. Each set was registered in its owner's name at the National Headquarters of The American Legion, with a double page illuminated certificate of ownership (signed by officials of The American Legion) in Volume I. The binding design on this volume is an authorized facsimile of the original art binding on the official Italian copy of the Versailles Peace Treaty, which was signed by King Victor Emmanuel and M Tittoni and deposited in the Archives of the Italian Government. In remarkably good condition in dark blue cloth with exquisite gilt decorated front, spine and titles. Slight wear to corners and spine head and heel. Sewn binding tight and solid, square, endbands. Hinges intact. Top edge gilt. Fore-edge and lower edge rough cut. May be some uncut leaves. Frontis plate with lettered and illustrated guard. Three other plates, monotone. Internals lightly toned, in remarkably good condition with lower edge of pp 181-82 and 183-84 torn, it appears while leaves were being cut, othewise clean, no markings, no creases or tears. Each volume is a facsimile of the various countries at the Versailles Peace Treaty finalizing WWI, including their crest/coat of arms/signets and gilt decorations. This Volume is the original art binding of the official Italian copy signed by King Victor Emmanuel and M. Tittoni and deposited in the Archives of the Italian Government. Top edge is bright gilt. Book is tight, square, sharp-cornered and free of markings and flaws inside and out, other than some mottling to back cover and minor amount to front. Nice frontispiece engraving with captioned tissue guard - "The World's Greatest Sea Fight - The Battle of Jutland." Three other illustrations all with captioned tissue guards. A comprehensive and readable source record of World War I with emphasis on important events. Each volume is a complete narrative in actual words of the chief officials and leaders. Each set was registered in its owner's name at the National Headquarters of The American Legion, with a double page illuminated certificate of ownership (signed by officials of The American Legion) in Volume I.
