Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Ellen Raskin (illustrator). SIGNED WITH A DRAWING BY RASKIN! NOT a library discard; privately owned! The front endpaper is inscribed "For Connie Ellen Raskin"! The author/illustrator has also drawn a 3" pic of a little girl wearing, of course spectacles. Adorable! Hardback book with dust jacket. The dj is NOT price-clipped ($5.23) and has a couple of 1" tears, tiny chips and a little fold on the back cover. It looks very nice under the fresh mylar cover that I've added. The yellow book is sturdy, crisp and clean. NO WRITING (other than the author inscription and drawing) and no page tears. The text pages are clean and the illustrations are bright. There are a couple of light pink smudges (fingermarks, I guess) on a few pages. This is the seventh printing, 1974 Atheneum. PACKED WITH CARE AND SHIPPED IN A BOX! Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Ellen Raskin (illustrator). 1st Edition. First printing. Best known for her Newbery Medal book The Westing Game, Ellen Raskin was also an illustrator and book designer who wrote and illustrated picture books for younger children. (She also designed the original book jacket for A Wrinkle in Time.) Spectacles was Raskin's third book, published in 1968. It was named an ALA Notable Book and a New York Times Best Illustrated book, and it is rare in first edition. The story concerns a little girl who needs eyeglasses, and the clever illustrations show how she views (and mistakes) certain things and then, a turn of the page later, what is actually there. these illustrations certainly seem those of a graphic artist. Clever, quirky, and fun. Book has yellow cloth-covered boards with illustration in blue to cover and blue lettering to spine. Covers are clean, sharp, tight and square; pages are crisp, unmarked, pristine. Like new. Dust jacket with some rubbing and short tears, clean and bright, original $3.50 price intact. Not Signed.
