First edition, inscribed by the author on the title page, "To Mick, best wishhes, Arthur C Clarke". This title is rare signed. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick, to whom the book is dedicated, worked on the screenplay and book together while the film was in development. The plot is partially based on several earlier short stories by Clarke, reworked into one of the most influential films ever made. Octavo. Original black quarter boards, spine lettered in blue and silver, blue board sides, pictorial endpapers. With dust jacket. Spine ends bumped, peripheries of boards sunned, a few marks to rear board; jacket unclipped, a few short closed tears at edges, faintly toned, tidemark to head of rear panel and flap: a very good copy in like jacket.
