Manchester [England]: George Cave and Charles Sever, [1857]. Large bifolum, letterpress printing, four-pages. Approx. 15 x 9¾ inches. Very Good. A useful and richly-informative circular providing a snapshot view of the textile trade in 1857 from a firm based in the industry hub, the city of Manchester. Stavert, Zigomala, & Co. informs on many levels, e.g. "The derangement which appears to have taken place in the over-supplied markets of Turkey, Syria, and Palestine, has considerably contracted the demands for T Cloths, Longcloths, and the descriptions of Mock Water Twist and other Yarns suitable for this markets" [and for Glasgow:] "Printed goods continue in good requestSpun Silks are still advancingPrinted handkerchiefs and Turkey Red Cloths are without change" Pages 24 describe numerous goods with their name, number of yards, their weight and price and so forth. Mexican T Cloths, Grey Maddapolams, 78ths Grey Power-Loom Printers (English and American), Scotch Goods, lines, burlaps, canvass, hemp carpeting are but a sample of such goods. Per "Africa" is printed at the top left corner of the circular. Enclosed with this circular is a price report from Mobile, Alabama from a W.J. Peckham dated 1859, a 1-page quarto. This circular provides price quotations and information along the lines of the above. Manchester circular. Both items are rare.
