Condition: Near Fine. Attractive souvenir program for the second major Broadway revival of the 1924 Romberg operetta, which premiered in 1924. We believe that the program was created for the road tour following the Broadway run, given the shows listed on the back cover that opened in 1944. Hence, there is no allusion to a specific theatre, but then, there are also no allusion to the actual cast members and other standard items one might expect in a program. 4to. 27.5 by 21 cm. Unpaginated, 16 pages, including cover. The revival was produced by the Shuberts, the original producers. It ran for 153 performances at the Broadway Theatre. The omission of star names was undoubtedly a canny calculation by the Shuberts who figured the work itself was enough of a drawer and didn't want to be at the mercy of a demanding and temperamental actor. The Prince was played by Frank Hornaday and Barbara Scully played Kathie, the love interest, neither of whom were big stars then nor known today. The one big name in the cast was Ann Pennington, a Ziegfeld star who was by then a has been. The program has some appealing artwork, as on the cover and title page and in little ornamental gestures throughout, and there are three full page b/w photos of performances. The program is relatively dense with text beyond the synopsis and bio of Romberg, including a piece on the meaning of "the salamander". Of interest to theatre aficionados are a listing of other shows playing on Broadway, which included "Mexican Hayride", "Bloomer Girl", "Song of Norway", and not to be slighted, Mae West in "Catherine was Great". The program has light wear. Stapled. Cover folded glossy sheet like all others.
