Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. A decent hardback first edition of volume 1 in a slightly shelf worn red half leather binding. Gilt title lettering to spine, top edge gilt. There is some rubbing to the joints of both the upper and lower covers (please see images), but the binding remains secure. There is an old private…book plate on the front paste-down (pictured), and some pencilled annotations on the verso of the front free endpaper (along with a pencilled private library reference number at the top of the second front free endpaper). A couple of pages in the middle of the volume have a short tear to their right-hand edges, and there is foxing throughout. Overall, a reasonable hardback first edition copy of volume 1, but with some rubbing to the binding (which remains secure), foxing throughout. Collated and complete.
