Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. The epistemological analysis of subaltern subjectivity as constituting agency in structured historical processes, subaltern subjectivity being considered as an epistemology in its own right, one considers as the central focus of the volumes of Subaltern Studies and has been a much debated question. This study addresses the issue from the perspective of an interpretation of marxian and Gramscian holistic analysis. A theoretical framework drawn from one's own work on adivasi political consciousness, organization and action within the political economy of the region, covering close to two hundred years in the then Thane district, Maharashtra (Saldanha: 1984/2015), facilitated by the theoretical writings of others is offered in the introduction. This conceptual design for a holistic analysis is used to present and critically appreciate the very extensive writings on peasant consciousness in the volumes of Subaltern Studies in the following three chapters, together with the commentaries of several other authors. In the concluding chapter, one's work assisted by E.P. Thompson is in more direct dialogue with the theoretical arguments in R. Guha's classical work Elementary Aspects of Peasant Insurgency (1983) which may be considered as the principal epistemological and ideological thrust underlying Subaltern Studies.

Book is unread, in pristine condition. Spine tight with no creases. Pages clean and unmarked. Experience remains a politically charged and semantically ambiguous concept that arouses as much passion as it does suspicion, especially as it relates to agency and identity. Craig Ireland focuses on the eighteenth-century historical developments that led to the conceptualization of experience as a modern problem. Combining historical findings with discourse analyses and diagnostic readings of recent subaltern and aesthetic inquiry, Ireland reveals that the term experience has been incorrectly understood. Since the 1970s, persistent appeals to experience in identity politics and cultural inquiry testify not only to the influence of a particular modern concept but, more importantly, to the historical status of modern self-identity. "The Subaltern Appeal to Experience" demonstrates that addressing historical preconditions not only helps clarify a notoriously ambiguous concept but also elucidates the issues that revolve around how modes of identity-formation have changed in the face of earlier cultural and economic developments that continue to inform our late (or post) modern understandings of the self.

Ruth, the outsider and Naomi, the insider. 4. Esther and Mordecai: the subalterns. 5. Women's world: center and margin. 6. Exodus story: god of the margins. Bibliography. The book is about the role of Center and Margins in family, society and the nation. We are living in a world where people in the center dominate the people living in the margin/periphery. In order to address the issue of center and margin taking into account of both patriarchal and colonial ideologies behind, the author has attempted to bring out six chapters to re-read and re-define the people of center and margin. This scholarly work brings out a macro sociological and subalternal analysis which could propose a new arena of Socio-cultural world of the Hebrew Bible. The book deals with the Biblical Law Codes (Book of the Covenant Code, Holiness Code and the Deuteronomic Code), Kingship in Israel comparing it with Ancient West Asian kingship and Women in the Hebrew Bible.
