Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Some cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding loose. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some moderate marking and tanning. Gilt lettering to spine is slightly dulled.

Condition: Good. 1963. 1963. 256 pages. Pictorial dust jacket over blue cloth. Contains black and white illustrations. Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Binding remains firm. Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have noticeable edge wear with corner bumping and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Unclipped dust jacket. Panels to dust jacket have light edge wear with tears and creasing.

Jacket was taped to the book and has more tape around the perimeter. First blank page of the book has whiteout where a name was, otherwise unmarked, sound and complete. Jacket has moderate to heavier shelf wear, overall bit of wrinkling, some edgewear and bit of creases.

Fine in fine jacket. This book is based on articles contributed to Practical Mechanics by Norman Hunter (1899-1995). Hunter is best known today for his Professor Branestawm series, the first of which was illustrated by W. Heath Robinson. However, he was also a performing magician, and these articles explain an amazing spectrum of secrets kept by stage and parlor magicians, spiritualists, con men, and mentalists. A feast for those interested in the construction of gimmicks.

Photocopy of review of original edition is affixed with cello-tape to inside rear cover. In a good price-clipped dust jacket with some small abrasions, edge wear, slight fading. No major chips. The previous edition was titled SUCCESSFUL CONJURING FOR AMATEURS published in 1951 and written by Norman Hunter. This revised edition drops the authors name! 256 pages, beautifully printed on coated paper stock. A considerable number of apparatus tricks are explained, some in sufficient detail to allow for do it yourself construction.
