Undated Edition, probably circa 1950s - 60s. Red cloth cover with Black Lettering to front & spine. 155 Pages, 670g, 11" Tall. No inscriptions. Jacket has some edge wear, a small closed tear (1/2" long) on back edge and tiny pieces missing from spine ends. Not clipped. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Condition: Good. Most items will be dispatched the same or the next working day. A copy that has been read but remains in clean condition. All of the pages are intact and the cover is intact and the spine may show signs of wear. The book may have minor markings which are not specifically mentioned. A good condition book. No dust jacket. Mild edgewear to the boards and some loss to the spine ends. The binding has slackened and the pages are thumbed and tanned. Overall a good clear copy.

First Edition. (Manchester: Associated Newspapers n.d late 1930s). First UK Edition. A small format publication of "gags" originally included as an insert with the Sunday Dispatch. Max Miller wrote for the Sunday Dispatch (from December 1939 to July 1940) by arrangement with Warner Brothers. These inserts of slightly risque "double entendre" jokes from the early months of WW2 must be exceedingly scarce. Photographs/scans available upon request.

1p., 4to. In good condition, lightly aged. Signed 'Cyril Joad'. Written in the same month as Britain and France had declared war, the letter begins: 'I don't know whether you are still running the Sunday Dispatch, but if you are, how about an article on the philosophy which underlies the Nazi rule in Germany? Till war broke out one had to soft-pedal one's views of these monstrous ideas, but now that it has come, one can take off the muzzle and say what one likes.' He outlines the 'main heads' of his article: 'theory of the State, theory of the relation of the individual to the State, theory of the whole duty of man, theory of the whole duty of woman, views as to the education of children, views as to the divinity of Hitler, views as to the secret [last word in autograph] mission of Germans, views as to the non-human character of all non-Aryans'. He has compiled a 'list of charming quotations from Nazi writers and speakers on these subjects', and the whole would make a 'keen article, partly amused (e.g. "Hitler is lonely; so is God. Hitler is like God."), partly horrified (e.g. "Justice and Hitler's will are one and the same thing."), and wholly denunciatory.' In an autograph postscript he writes: 'If you are not running the Dispatch, how are you and what are you doing and are you ever at the Savage [Club]?'.

First Edition. Large four=page newsspread for Sunday Morning, April 27, 1862. Volume XV, Number 1. Edges yellowed, light chipping. Dark splotch bottom of front page, not obliterating type. Old tape a left margin front page. Folded, with some closed tears. Articles on Society of Friends, news of the war, lewtters from soldiers, advertisements. Fragile but quite readable. Size: Large Folio.
