Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First American edition. Sm 4to. 419 pp. Black cloth with neon pink and green lettering - near fine. The price-intact ($7.50) jacket is very good with light wear to corners and the spine ends. The biggest issue is a closed, taped on the verso, tear that extends about 3" across the bottom of the front panel. Taped to the front pastedown is a xerox copy of a letter from John Chilton to Berisford "Shep" Shepherd thanking him for supplying his bio info for this book. Obviously Shep's copy at one point - and he has inscribed it to the jazz drummer, Benny Carter: "To Benny Carter, who liked the sound of my twenty-eight-inch bass drum in 1941 - thereby causing most of this resume (Page #335) to come about. Many thank to you and yours. Sincerely, "Shep" Shepherd. Benny Carter was a renowned alto sax, trumpeter, arranger and composer. In addition, taped to the half-title page is a 3 1/2" by 5" black and white polaroid of Benny Carter and his drum kit. Really nice association. Inscribed by Author(s).
