Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Potter, Beatrix (illustrator). First edition. 1st thus 1969. Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper. The Tailor of Gloucester, as originally written by Beatrix Potter, was three times as long as the small edition published by Frederick Warne and Company which her admirers know so well today, and she was reluctant to have its text cut or altered. However, even in the privately printed edition, which she published herself, she was obliged to sacrifice some eleven hundred words and in the Warne edition that followed, a thousand words were deleted. This is a printed trade edition of the original manuscript and pictures with all the cherished nursery rhymes included and all the whimsical details retained. Produced with the assistance of the Free Library of Philadelphia, owner of the original manuscript and pictures. Cream pictorial boards. Full page colour illustrations. 9.5 x 7.5" Slight evidence of removal of a bookplate to front free-endpaper. Contents fine. Price-cut wrapper is browned and edge worn. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Beatrix Potter (illustrator). 1st Edition. The single endpaper design is repeated four times. 1903 date to title page matches 1903 copyright. Narrow pieces of paper have been removed (torn off) from top corner of FFE and from top corner of the frontispiece, not impacting any text or illustration. Red cloth spine over cranberry paper-covered boards, very neat, but the spine is blank -- no spine titling -- raising the possibility that this is a newer cloth spine covering. Inscribed to top of half-title page "Elsie from Baby / Nov. 24th 1903". Then, upside down to a blank verso near rear of book, early owner has penned "Miss M Sinclair / Russell House / Hampstead Heath." Reduced from $570.
