A finely composed Japanese bijin-ga style print depicting an intimate interior scene of two elegantly dressed women engaged in quiet leisure, rendered in the classical ukiyo-e tradition and likely dating to the early-mid 20th century. The composition is richly detailed, with the seated figure draped in a flowing patterned kimono while her attendant prepares tea or incense beside her, surrounded by carefully observed domestic objects including lacquerware, ceramics, and a standing lantern. Above, a poetic cartouche with calligraphic inscription frames a serene landscape vignette, adding a literary and seasonal dimension typical of traditional Japanese genre scenes. A vertical red title cartouche and artist-style signature with seal appear at right, consistent with decorative bijin prints produced for both domestic appreciation and export during the shin-hanga revival period. The palette remains vibrant, with deep indigo, soft celadon, and warm vermilion tones contrasting beautifully against the aged paper ground. Presented in an attractive bamboo-style frame, the work shows even toning and scattered age-related spotting, visible primarily in the margins, but retains strong visual appeal and decorative presence. Frame measures 13.25in. x 18.75in. Shelved at Dupont. 1410659. Shelved Dupont Bookstore. Signed.

A finely composed original Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print attributed to Utagawa Toyokuni III (also known as Kunisada), one of the most prolific and influential masters of the Utagawa school. The print belongs to the celebrated "Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji" series, a popular 19th-century reinterpretation of The Tale of Genji, depicting an elegant interior court scene with richly dressed figures, attendant, and literary elements including writing implements and incense. The upper cartouche contains a poem or narrative excerpt, reinforcing the literary context central to Genji-inspired imagery. Executed with delicate linework and harmonious color, the composition exemplifies Kunisada's refined approach to bijin and narrative genre scenes. Signed "Toyokuni ga" at lower right. Presented in a later frame. A highly decorative and collectible example of Edo-period literary ukiyo-e. Frame measures 13.25in. x 18.75in. Shelved at Dupont. 1410661. Shelved Dupont Bookstore. Signed.
