Published by Akteibolaget Bofors, [Sweden], 1962
Seller: Between the Covers-Rare Books, Inc. ABAA, Gloucester City, NJ, U.S.A.
First Edition
Unbound. Condition: Very Good. A collection of approximately 77 sales brochures and presentation materials from the Swedish arms manufacturer Aktiebolaget Bofors dating from 1954 to 1962, primarily associated with Bofors' Technical Department of War Material (abbreviated as KMT), showing off the features and uses of these weapons and products in a condensed and succinct manner. Most documents are 8 ½" by 11 ¾", some documents fold out to larger sizes. The collection features many images including full-color cross sections and diagrams, some black-and-white illustrations including three from photographs, as well as multiple charts and graphs. Accompanying many of these images are texts providing descriptions and data. All documents are in English, save for two that are in Swedish. A few documents are moderately dampstained but the information remains legible, overall a very good or better collection. Aktiebolaget Bofors, also known as AB Bofors, is most famous for their 40-mm gun, which was used by multiple armies in WWII. The gun became so famous for its quality that for a time the phrase "Quite Bofors" was used to mean "great" or "first-rate." This collection has two documents that explicitly mention the 40-mm rounds (KMT-153 and KMT-154), which outline the Fuze Fz 104 for 40-mm L/70 ammunition with cross-section diagrams and specifications. This manner of presentation is applied to many of the weapons and products covered in this collection such as the Anti-Tank Guided Missile BANTAM, the Star Shell, the Time Fuze M 53, and many more. One weapon of note is the 37-mm Antitank Gun, which is presented via a data sheet and four 47" x 24" blue-and-white diagrams and one 33" x 24" blue-and-white diagram, each showing the gun from a different angle or in a different configuration, but none providing any detail in text. Altogether there are 61 KMT documents (some of which are multiple pages), nine KKZ documents (an abbreviation we cannot decipher), and seven documents with no designating codes (five of which are the aforementioned blue-and-white diagrams, the only such kind in the collection). A detailed list of all documents can be provided upon request. A rare and visually striking collection of sales brochures and presentation materials from the famous Swedish arms manufacturer illustrating the design and evolution of many of their products from the mid-1950s to the early 1960s.
