Softcover. Condition: Very good to fine condition. First Edition, Limited. Elephant Folio. 6 leaves, 6 plates. Original illustrated stapled white stiff wraps with original, signed and dated drawing on cover, with six offset prints of watercolors, signed in plate with tissue guards containing white printed text and gilt initials in decorative blue framing. Housed in original blue velvet covered wraps portfolio with white Menorah on blue, framed by gilt vertical block, with yellow cord with tassel wound around spine, and gilt lettering on cover, protected by modern mylar, in white pebbled buckram slipcase with gilt menorah on cover, gilt lettering on spine. "The Gates of Prayer" Congregation Shaaray Tefila was estabished in 1845. It was first located on Wooster Street in lower Manhattan until 1864, then moving to midtown 1867-1894 and later to the West End. There in a beautiful modern Temple at the southwest corner of Seventy-Ninth Street and Second Avenue the congregation made its contribution to carry forward a proud tradition of service. The pamphlet contains a brief history of the congregation Shaaray Tefila with two reproductions of Gross drawings of the temple, a brief biographical text on Chaim Gross with portrait photograph, and six beautiful aqua litho-tints of the Chaim Gross sculpture series, a small set of these in b/w with larger reproductions in gilt on verso. These exquisite color plates are drawings for the sculptures which were placed in the Temple. This unique presentation of the Temple is issued in a limited edition, authorized and autographed below original drawing by the sculptor Chaim Gross. Text is augmented with elaborate decorative initials and endpieces. Slipcase with light wear along edges, light chipping at head and tail of spine and lower foredge; lightly rubbed. Protective mylar with four inch closed tear, moving up diagonally from lower right cover, and small chip at left lower front cover.
