There is an undated Sunday School plate inside the front cover, there is foxing on first and last 20 pages and some in between, thick cream pages, tight binding and clean fawn board covers with a cameo illustration 'tipped-in' on the front (i.e. glued on extra). One colour plate as frontispiece: "Marsaili lit the Love candle; then as the younger girls knelt, she recited some verses" and 3 more b&w full-page plates. The second in the Torment series focusses on Tormentilla Grant who at 16 attends an all-boys school and belongs to a Campfire group.
