At the time of his death, Thackeray was considered a preeminent author, witness the included essays by both Dickens and Trollope. This copy is very good in brown pebbled cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Minor scuffing and fraying at the corners and spine ends. Slight fading of the cloth at the edges, but overall the binding is tight and sound, with original endpapers. There is an ink name and date (March 26, 1864) of the original owner on the ffep, and the same owner's name on the title page, but no other marks or damage.
