Internally, there are previous owners' stamp markings and signatures to the early pages but there are no other markings or inscriptions and the pages within are neat, clean and complete. VERY RARE FIRST EDITION OF THIS IMPORTANT WORK BY ALEXANDER. The scientific and biological breakthroughs inherent in the work of F. Matthias Alexander are legendary. Today, across the globe there are many teachers and students of the discipline known as the Alexander technique. The famous educator, psychologist and author John Dewey, as constant pupil of the author wrote that "the technique of Mr. Alexander gives to the educator a standard of psycho-physical health--in which what we call morality is included. It supplies also the "means whereby" this standard may be progressively and endlessly achieved, becoming a conscious possession of the one educated. It provides therefore the conditions for the central direction of all special educational processes. It bears the same relation to education that education itself bears to all other human activities.It contains in my judgment the promise and potentiality of the new direction that is needed in all education.

Second reprint with an introduction by Professor John Dewey. This copy includes a rare dustjacket printed with an illustration and a blurb piece on the front cover, kept in good shape within protective plastic and showing only minor loss and discolouration to it's edges, and a very faint speckle of foxing here and there. Light shelf wear to the boards and spine and spine gilding remains bright. More mild foxing to the textblock edges, pastedowns and endpapers which very rarely encroaches onto the inner pages. A few pages have hairline creases but all text remains legible. Occasional shallow cracks to the gutters but the majority of the binding remains decently tight. A solidly Good Condition book overall for it's age. The dust jacket description describes this book as 'A book that should be of the greatest benefit to the present generation. To be successful it is essential to have the fullest control of our powers; yet the majority through lack of control are unable to express themselves completely or adjust to their environment. The author gives illustrations to show that this is due to their misdirection of the use of their physical and mental mechanisms, and he here describes with commendable lucidity the technique he has developed by means of which this misdirection can be changed.'.
