From the library of author Henry Rood, with his initialed 1919 acquisition note inside the front cover, a 1931 pencil gift inscription from him to a subsequent owner, and a hand-addressed envelope from Thayer to Rood glued to the front endpaper containing a 19-line handwritten signed note (dated February 10, 1920) thanking Rood for a kind review, and for his correction to an anecdote on page271 (incorporated in later printings).
