Condition: Good. 1956. First Edition. 339 pages. Signed by the author. Illustrated yellow and gray jacket over red cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Edited John Morris. Black and white illustration to title page. Binding remains firm. Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Moderate tanning and foxing to… pastedowns and endpapers, with pencil marks to front and rear endpapers. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate crushing to spine ends. Moderate tanning and foxing to textblock. Slight bowing to boards. Unclipped jacket has moderate wear to edges, with small tears and chips. Light tanning to spine. Moderate foxing to DJ flaps and reverse side.

Cloth Bound Boards. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition, First Impression. 1956 First edition, first impression. Signed and inscribed by V. S. Pritchett. Size octavo, 9.25" tall, 339 pages. Taupe cloth covered boards with gilt titles and bands to the spine, bevelled edges, pages edges rough trimmed many uncut and/or p…artially unopened. With original marbled paper covered slipcase which is in unfortunate condition, corners and edges are rubbed, falling apart at the seams. Condition very good plus, spine a little tanned, corners and spine ends slightly rubbed, contents are very clean. An anthology published to celebrate the completion of ten years of broadcasting by the BBC Third Programme. With various contributions from the shows grouped into the categories of Imagination, Argument, Experience and Exposition. "Unlike the standard edition it contains decorations by B. S. Biro" V.S. Pritchett contributes "Maisie" in the Imagination section and "The Artist in Society" along with Graham Greene and Elizabeth Bowen in the Argument section. One of a limited edition of thirteen hundred Tall copies printed on Barcham Green's rag mould-made paper by The Stellar Press. Where the number should be handwritten at the end of the limitation statement (which appears at the end of the book) instead is handwritten "Out of Series" and the word Number is crossed out. One of V. S. Pritchett's own copies, with his small owner's label to the front paste-down, signature in pencil on the front free end-paper and below the pencil signature is inscribed in blue biro; "For Lady Warlby. This playlet here included which I wrote in Parkhill Road. VSP with love" Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. B. S. Biro (illustrator). Signed by Author(s).

Also numbered and signed by the US/Canada publisher, Max Reinhardt on the limitation page at end of the book. Unlike the standard edition this volume contains illustrations by B.S. Biro. Grey cloth covered beveled edged boards with bright gilt lettering and bands on spine. Faded gilt top page edges. Untrimmed fore edge and lower page edges. Few uncut (and partially cut) pages, such as pp95/98, p271, p307. Small vertical brown mark (heat/burn?) to top edge of front cover. Otherwise in fine condition. Clean inside pages.
