First Edition
Condition: Fine. First Edition presumed. Beautiful and unique trade catalogue for bone china and earthenware, with binding of full white snake skin. Being a rather opulent catalogue, it was supposedly for sale, carrying a price of half a guinea, as printed discreetly on the rear endpaper lower right corner, but we would surmise that it was sent and/or given to established customers complementarily. N.d., circa 1960. 8vo. 24 by 19.5 cm. 32 pp. Counted in the page enumeration are ten full color chromolithographic plates of china, with plates to a single manufacturer or brand -- Spode (2 color plates), Royal Crown Derby, Minton, Wedgwood (also 2 color plates), Royal Worcester, Hammersley, Booth, Simpson. The golds and some other colors are especially rich and have an illuminated quality. Facing each color plate is a detailed price list for what is depicted. The first page with content, the frontis, so to speak, is an attractive etching of the Mayfair-based store. Final eleven pages cover the shapes and sizes of the china on offer, with line drawin vignettes aplenty. Leaves are all on a glossy paper stock, with an aqua background, border or bands. The business, which is still in operation, was founded in 1829. With a separate cover on the company's stationary in the front. Hardcover. Snakeskin. Spiral within.
