This set is number 31. The Ruth & Marvin Sackner catalogue (1986) cites the year as 1979, but this should be 1970. The Sackner copy, now held by The University of Iowa, USA (currently the only located institutional holding in OCLC) cites 55 cards, 54 of which are present here in this set, 27 stacked in each side. The absent card is a pre-title card reading "Sentences by Peter Schmidt". The cards were overprinted onto various older prints, and all editions of this set differ slightly. Influenced by the I Ching, 'The Thoughts Behind the Thoughts' was a precursor to the larger collaborative project with Brian Eno entitled 'Oblique Strategies'. A rare and significant mixed-media work. There is chipping to the wood at the top front corner of the box, also to the sliding wooden lid.
