First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. THE THRONE OF DAVID BY REV. J. H. INGRAHAM 1865 EARLY REPRINT OF THE FIRST EDITION. This small hard cover book (5 ½ x 7 ¾ inches, 603 pages) was published by Roberts Brothers of Boston, dated 1865, an early reprint of the First Edition of the work which dates from 1860. This book was supposedly the second volume of a trilogy recounting Hebrew history. The subtitles go on for quite a bit and tell a fuller story, to wit: The Throne of David; from the Consecration of the Shepherd of Bethlehem, to the Rebellion of Prince Absalom, Being an Illustration of the Splendor, Power, and Dominion of the Reign of the Shepherd, Poet, Warrior, King and Prophet, Ancestor and Type of Jesus. The book is bound in dark green blind-stamped boards with a gilt decoration on the cover and gilt decorations and the title on the spine. The book opens with a tissue-guarded Frontispiece which seems to have attracted a good deal of foxing which has affected some of the adjacent pages. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are generally clean and bright and so too the gilt decorations and title. There has been some minor bumping to the corners and spine tips. There is a small stamp of the name of a former owner on the front endpaper but thereafter the interior pages are very clean and bright and largely without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding seems strong but some of the sheaths of pages are very slightly out of line. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Language: ENG.

Some rub marks to the cover with mild frays at the spine ends and corner tips. It appears that someone accidently tipped an ink well at a spot on the top outer fore edge that just mildly affects the outer page edge. The pages are light to moderately foxed, and there is a light original owner name with what looks like a 1870 date at the front endpaper. And there are a few pencil marks to the outer fore edge. Just over 7 1/2 x 5 1/4 with 603 pages. Illustrated. Scarce first edition. Size: 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Book.
