Artist's account of seabirds and their ways, with some comments on drawing them; nicely illustrated, of course, including many pictures of sea and shore birds, a few sailors, and one portrait based on Paul Gallico's 'The Snow Goose' - indeed, many of the paintings must echo the work of Rhayader, the fictional artist of that book. Light wear to book, some tanning to edges & base of spine; price-clipped jacket foxed with some tears, creases, chipping, loss of an inch or so from the base of the spine; light foxing within, page edges spotted/foxed, ink name. Add to basketCloth. Condition: Good Reading Copy. No Jacket. Keith Shackleton (illustrator). First Edition. Blue cloth 4to, no dustwrapper, pp.128. Colour plates and numerous black and white plates plus text illustrations by the author. Attractively illustrated book about seabirds and their habitats by landscape artist Keith Shackleton. His friend Peter Scott contributes a short foreword. Sadly this is rather waterstained to the cloth margins, and the spine is very faded. The text is largely clean, although slight damp staining does occur to a few upper page margins. The text is a little rippled in places throughout from damp, but is remarkably clean and otherwise unaffected by the damp the binding has suffered, and so remains a rewarding book to browse through. Good reading copy. Heavy book, when wrapped appropriately it weighs c1200g thus exceeding the 1000g default for the automatic postage quotation - the extra postage will be requested at time of order or enquiry.if to be sent by 1st class UK post or overseas, 2nd class UK no need.

Add to basketCloth. Condition: Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Keith Shackleton (illustrator). First Edition. Written and illustrated by Keith Shackleton with a foreword by Peter Scott. 16 plates in colour. 122 plus pages. Illustrations in text with index to same. Map illustrated endpapers. Blue cloth, gilt titles; dust-jacket in protective plastic wraps. Some shelf-wear and the beginnings of spotting to pages. Dust-jacket with wear, tear, repair and a small degree of loss. The book is the result of many years keen observation among the natural homes of sea birds. ["During the long winter evenings, with this book beside you, you will be able to revive memories of long walks with the wind in your face and the tang of salt on your lips, and the cry of birds will seem none too distant."] It is barely noticeable against the contours of the front endpaper map but a previous owner has stamped the initial "P" as evidence of ownership.
