This twenty-second edition of the North Central Christmas book, And Time Began, is a selection of poems by Eugene J. McCarthy. It has been designed by Frank Kacmarcik and is hand set in Eric Gill s Perpetua type. The binding contains a detail from a Lithograph Trees and Fields by Peter Takal. Three hundred and fifty copies printed on Charing Handmade, were set aside for friends of the author. The work was completed on the twenty-third day of December, 1968. This is copy number 175. 23 p, INSCRIBED BY POET! Original cloth binding measuring 11.25 x 8.25", large 8vo. In good condition. Small age-stain on front board; light soiling around edges. Head and tail of spine bumped, some frayed threads. Small age-stain at head of front gutter. Poet's inscription found on half-title page: "To Raymond Wolver/ in friendship/ on his 86th birthday/ Eugene McCarthy". Text-block clean. Binding tight and intact. Please see photos.
