Tasha Tudor (1915 2008) was a much beloved and honored American illustrator and writer of many children's books--a number of them award winners! During her long life, she received many awards and honors, including Caldecott Honors for Mother Goose in 1945 and 1 is One in 1957. She received the Regina Medal in 1971 for her contributions to children's literature. Her books feature simple and often rhyming text accompanied by detailed and realistic drawings with soft colors. Text and pictures are often bordered by intricate details such as flowers, birds or other charming objects and animals. The visual or textual content often refers to traditions, artifacts or memories of the 19th century. Her books are highly valued possessions of an appreciative audience.

The recipient Daphne Fielding was a British socialite and memoirist best known for The Duchess of Jermyn StreetÂandÂThe Nearest Way Home, offer valuable insight into the world of the âBright Young Thingsâ and the decline of the English upper classes. Xan Fielding was a British writer and former SOE operative whose travel memoirs and wartime accounts, notablyÂHide and Seek, blend adventurous narrative with rich cultural insights from the Mediterranean and Middle East. A tiny indentation to the centre of the upper board, and triflingly bumped at the tips of two extremities. Fore edge very slightly spotted. A virtually fine copy. No dust wrapper, probably as issued (the 450 copies bound in buckram were issued with a dust wrapper, but I suspect the fifty signed examples were not). A collection of three pieces on monasteries and monasticism followed by a short postscript. The first and longest piece originally appeared under a different title in a 1949 issue of the periodical 'The Cornhill'. The second and third pieces were written later and the three first published together in this Queen Anne Press limited issue, before being revised by the author for the John Murray trade edition issued four years later.
