Colour and black & white illustrations, colour-illustrated self-printed wrappers, stapled as issued (very minor tear at foot of spine, slight shelfwear), VG-; Fourteen original photographs, 12 sized 8 x 10.25 in., two sized 5 x 7 in., nine silver gelatin black & white (several w/ commercial photographers stamps on verso), 5 colour photographs, NF set. First edition of this very scarce dealer's promotional packet extolling the virtues of the Boysen Colorizer System, complete with sales pitch, and fantastic photographs showing the displays and products. The original Colorizer System was developed in the 1930s by two anonymous entrepreneurs in Salt Lake City, UT. In 1949, they contracted with the Walter N. Boysen Paint Company in Oakland, CA to produce the paints which were then introduced nationwide as a rapid paint-formulation system in a House & Garden Magazine article. The original system adopted by Boysen consisted of 1322 paint colours derived from 31 concentrated colourants as well as white and light gray base paints into which the concentrates were mixed. The brochure and photographs provide a fantastic guide for the marketing of the system, with a paint sample album for 60-second color matching, Color Center chip display, as well as the national advertising campaign pushed by Boysen. Two vols. 1st - Oblong 4to. 11.75 x 8.5 x 2 in. 14 leaves printed on thick card stock, colour-printing, w/ 47 textile & leather samples tipped-in w/ colours of dark green, light green, red leather, blue, light blue, black, and more; 15 large paint samples coated on recto, backed in gray felt on verso (some issued w/ 16 samples); comb-bound 8 mylar overlays, w/ clear outlines of cars showing white-wall tires, and chrome trim packages to be laid over paint samples. Original silver-brushed 2-ring binder as issued, red lettering, red backdrop, rounded corners (minor rubbing, edgewear, some shelfwear), still VG copy; 2nd - 8vo. [16 pp (upaginated)]. Colour-illustrated through, self-printed wrappers, stapled as issued, NF copy. First editions of this scarce dealer showroom catalogue for the 1952 Rocket 88, the famed line of Oldsmobile automobiles including the Super 88, the De Luxe 88, and the new Classic 98. The Super 88 line used the Rocket V8 engine, and was the first King of NASCAR race cars winning half the races in 1952, which appealed to the huge pent-up demand for fast automobiles in the post-World War II market. The 88 enjoyed tremendous success and was sold as a 2-door Holiday Coupe, Convertible Coupe, 2-Door Sedan & Club Coupe, and Classic 98 in coupe, convertible & sedan. Oldsmobile introduced in 1952 a 303 V8 with a new four-barrel carb, and styling changes to new grills, taillights, and automatic headlight controls. The Oldsmobile 98 was the top of the line Olds, and standard equipment included bumper guards, rubber seat cushions, turn signals, interior carpeting, stainless steel wheel trim rings, windshield washers, and 6 different colours of leather upholstery as are shown here in the showroom catalogue with the beautifully done overlays.
