The boards and spine show minor wear to the edges and extremites, mostly at the upper and lower edge of the spine. There is a bend to the top third at the upper corner of the rear board. The gilt/lettering and illustrations are bright and legible, without significant loss. There are several small spots/smudges on the front board, along with mild darkening to the spine. The pages are very mildly toned, having no markings or folds. There is a dampstain to the edges of the first three pages (free end page - table of contents). There is a prior owners signature on the free end page. This is a wonderful copy, attractive on the shelf, and with a nice "heft" in the hand.
