Condition is just Good: generally very clean, with light soil/dust dulling to outside page edges. Rubbing to extremities, heaviest at both ends of spine & all corners, slight split in paper to lower spine where it meets front cover. Pages off-white with mild tanning; no foxing. Binding straight & strong, hinges intact. Former owner's name in marker to outside fore edge; another owner's bookplate on ffep, else unmarked. The contents--illustrated blue end papers + 184 pp.--appear clean, complete, and securely bound. Blue tweed cloth with dark blue lettering and upper board decoration. Bit of yellowing/fading to the spine and some edges from sunning. The color dust jacket has moderate edge wear including a chip at the spine tail/front lower spine corner, some rubbing, creases, and a few small tears. Print date estimated based on series' titles listed or not listed on the dust jacket's flaps and in the front of the book. No ex-library markings.

The character was created by Edward Stratemeyer, the founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, a book-packaging firm, and his adventures have been written by a number of different ghostwriters over the years. Most of the books are published under the collective pseudonym Victor Appleton, although the 33 volumes of the second series use the pseudonym Victor Appleton II. The character first appeared in 1910 and has appeared in new titles as recently as 2007. Most of the various series focus on Tom's inventions, a number of which pre-date actual inventions.
