Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Hardcover, we believe this publication was issued without a jacket, excellent condition, tiny, mild bumps to the bottom corners and a short crease to the cloth at bottom spine are the only remarkable (and minor) flaws, this copy includes two brief handwritten letters, one is signed "Mrs. Tana" and is a plea to the recipients to help to sell this book in America, it is dated May 10, 1978, the second letter is signed "Tomoe Tana," it is actually a postcard informing the recipient of the book's pending publication, it is dated Aug. 9, 1978, the book's text is in English and Japanese, the book is undated but we assume 1978, From the Preface: "In 1957 when Miss Lucille M. Nixon received the most prestigious honor from the Emperor's Palace in Japan for Japanese tanka poetry, she became the only non-Japanese tanka poet or poetess to be awarded such an honor"; 270 pages; Signed by Author.…

In the English-language edition, Houser's chapter is titled: "Reflections of a Religious War Objector (Half a Century Later)." Houser was also a minister, Civil Rights activist, and activist for the independence of African nations. Colour woodblock print 40.8 x 27cm (including margins), published by Unsodo in 1958, the title, Unsodo publisher's seal, printer's seal, carver's seal left margin, Unsodo 'Gei' watermark, Kasamatsu's signature and red seal lower left and signed in Roman letters lower right, kento cut (due to the printing process) lower right, sheet a little dusty and creased, but the image in very good condition. Kasamatsu Shiro (1898 ? 1991) was an active member of the Shin-hanga (New Woodblock) movement, and had a very long and successful career. After the Pacific War, his style evolved, embracing Western techniques and this 1958 print showcases his later work. Minakami in Gunma Prefecture is located in the mountainous area, north of Tokyo, and is known for its hot springs. The print depicts a wintry dusk scene in the village, with falling snow against the glow of house lights. From the collection of the late John Caiger (1930-2022), lecturer in Asian studies, ANU.…
