Soft cover. Condition: VG-. First published work for the young, fledgling commercial artist Lustig (1915 - 1955) who submitted this cover art when he was 18 years old. Lustig went in to become one of the leading dustjacket artists of the 1950s whose modern graphic design befit much of the avant garde and intellectual titles of t…he period. The magazine measures approx 10 x 12.25", the cover depicting a limousine traversing terrain from the desert to snow-capped mountains printed in black and red, with his reproduced signature - in a primitive version of the signature he would be known for - in the lower right corner. 42 pages, internals toned, some chipping and wear to spine and cover edges, cover moderately worn. The unsolicited submission prompted Touring Topics editor Hall to hire the young Lustig as art editor for the next issue. The cover is referenced in the most authoritative bibliography of Lustig's ouevre as his first published work in "Born Modern: The Life and Design of Alvin Lustig" by Steve Heller and Elaine Lustig Cohen (Chronicle Books, 2010), pp 22-23.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Touring Topics' is a vibrant chronicle of early automotive culture and exploration in the American West. Set during the late 1920s, this work captures the spirit of adventure that defined a golden age of motoring, offering readers an immersive look at the burgeoning road systems, scenic la…ndscapes, and cultural heritage of California and its neighboring states. It serves as an essential record of the intersection between technology, tourism, and regional identity during a period of rapid modernization.Within these pages, the collection explores detailed accounts of pioneer trails, historical sketches of Western towns, and the evolving relationship between the driver and the open road. The writing reflects a deep appreciation for both the natural beauty of the Pacific slope and the historical figures who shaped the region. From the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains to the developing coastal highways, 'Touring Topics' provides a nostalgic yet scholarly window into a transformative era when the automobile began to reshape the American landscape. This work remains a significant resource for historians, automotive enthusiasts, and anyone fascinated by the enduring allure of Western travel and the history of the American road trip. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Half-Leather. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. The Automobile Club of Southern California was founded in 1900 by a group of automobile enthusiasts. They provided member services including organizing social activities, sponsoring car races and lobbying for public money to improve roads. The house magazine, Touring Topics, began… publishing in February, 1909. What is here is a bound volume of twelve issues spanning February 1915 to January, 1916. February, 1915 is fairly used, with the cover page detached where it was attached to the end papers. The last page of January, 2016 is detaching for the same reason, All other copies are basically in excellent condition, with the exception of a lightly used March, 2015 and a small tear on the covers of December, 2015 and January, 2016. The binding is very strong despite the detaching described above. Half leather covers are very good. Rubbing along edges and front of spine. Approximately 7 1/2 X 10 1/2. 44 pages in each volume , except July, which has 48 pages.
