Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. A fair copy only of the author's second book, a difficult book to find. There is some discolouration to the green cloth on both side of the spine (running vertically), and to a lesser extent on the boards, including in the top right-hand corner of the upper cover. There is some tanning and foxing to the endpapers, and a fairly light vertical crease to the half title page. There is a small hole in the right-hand margin of page 21 (and left-hand margin of page 22). The binding of this slim 260-page novel is sound and secure and the contents are clean. The pictorial dust jacket (with the fictional house of "Hurtwood" on the upper cover) has not been price-clipped but is shelf worn: creased, chipped, worn and torn, with a few areas of loss, including at the head of the spine. Overall, a rather tired copy of a difficult book to find in its first edition state (1946). This slim volume will be properly packed.
