Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. For your consideration: a lovely vintage Christmas booklet from the 1940s: THE STORY OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE . The Utica Mutual Insurance Company issued a series of lovely Christmas Booklets through mid 20th Century. Each one focused on a specific aspect of the Christmas holiday. For this lovely piece of Christmas paper, Mutual was Joined by the Allied Fire Insurance Company of Utica, and the John L. Train Company, also of Utica. John L. Train was one of the Founders of Utica Mutual Insurance Company. The Foreword of this slim booklet states it simple purpose: "The Custom of the Christmas Tree, although a comparatively recent addition to the celebration of Christmas, is rooted deeply in antiquity and is decked with pretty legends. This booklet will add to you enjoyment of the tree by telling you its story." The booklet is undated and gives no printing date, nor does it identify the artist; the rear exterior is imprinted with the names of the Utica Mutual Insurance Company, the Allied Fire Insurance Company of Utica, and the John L. Train Company, Inc., Home Offices, Utica N. Y. Above the company names is printed the following message, which gives a good hint at the book's time frame : "Whether you be at home, on the seas, or in distant places, the Christmas Tree and our good wishes will be with you. Marry Christmas". TITLE : The Story of the Christmas Tree AUTHOR : Anonymous IMPRINT : Utica Mutual Insurance Company / Allied Fire Insurance Co. / John L. Train Co.
