Published 1884, bound in sandgrain cloth, clean and tidy, pages mellowed. A handwritten note with the book reads: "A collection of applications / petitions for the training of the candidates taking examinations in Civil Superior Services. Urdu text. Obtained from the Office of Nawab Lieutenant of the State of Owad (?), India. The cases included in the collection were compiled in 1864. Collection published 1884. A 156-page publication in a green paper cover cased in brown leather-faced [actually textured cloth - ed] boards, with title "URDU PARTITIONS" to spine. 10 inches x 5.8 inches. A collection of court cases (civil and criminal) where someone is being sued. It would have been used by a candidate studying to be a magistrate, who needed to know how a case would be set out. 23 pages, involving several cases throughout the book, have neat annotations in English by a previous owner - Urdu words / concepts translated, comments, etc (ink and pencil). A sheet of paper containing a handwritten English translation from one case has been inserted, loose. (Please note that the above description has been given to the compilers, who are not Urdu speakers)." Minor rubbed to spine, minor sunning to cloth, pages aged and mellowed. Very good condition. Scarce piece of Indian Raj history. Book.
