Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A near fine copy, in a very good plus dust jacket, of the first UK edition. As this copy appears to have been sold in South Africa it is reasonable to assume that this is the true first edition of the author's first work, and takes precedence over the US edition. The navy blue cloth binding is clean and unworn, with strong gilt lettering to the spine. Everything is tight, with sharp unbumped edges and corners. Inside there are no ownership inscriptions or other markings of any kind, other than a small bookseller's stamp (Durban) to the ffep. The dust jacket is unclipped (8.6d.net), and intact with only very minor edgewear, mainly consisting of some nibbles and rubbing to the spine ends. It is now protected in a removable mylar cover. From the blurb: "[This book] is the dramatic story of two men - one black and one white - in South Africa today. Willem is the trusted native who works on the farm of Jacob van Schoor, a good 'baas' to whom the natives look with respect and admiration".
