Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good copy, in a very good dust jacket, of the stated first US edition. The binding of red patterned paper boards is clean and generally unworn, with strong silver lettering to the spine. Spine very slightly cocked, but otherwise everything is…tight, with sharp unbumped edges and corners. Inside there are no ownership inscriptions or other markings of any kind. The dust jacket is unclipped ($2.95), and intact with only very minor edgewear. It is now protected in a removable mylar cover. From the blurb: "This extraordinary short novel is the author's first work. In it Dan Jacobson has succeeded in presenting both a vivid picture of life in South Africa, and a piercing commentary on human nature".

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A near fine copy, in a very good plus dust jacket, of the first UK edition. As this copy appears to have been sold in South Africa it is reasonable to assume that this is the true first edition of the author's first work, and takes precedence over th…e US edition. The navy blue cloth binding is clean and unworn, with strong gilt lettering to the spine. Everything is tight, with sharp unbumped edges and corners. Inside there are no ownership inscriptions or other markings of any kind, other than a small bookseller's stamp (Durban) to the ffep. The dust jacket is unclipped (8.6d.net), and intact with only very minor edgewear, mainly consisting of some nibbles and rubbing to the spine ends. It is now protected in a removable mylar cover. From the blurb: "[This book] is the dramatic story of two men - one black and one white - in South Africa today. Willem is the trusted native who works on the farm of Jacob van Schoor, a good 'baas' to whom the natives look with respect and admiration".

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. An uncorrected proof copy of the first edition of his first book, in card wrappers. 8vo. 96pp. Slightly stained and dust-marked. (Oddly neither the title-page nor cover of this proof indicate the publisher's intention of printing the author's name!).
