A classic by this famous French writer. The author travelled from Brazzaville, up river, to the forests between Bangui and Nola, to Bosoum, Fort Archambault, Fort Lamy, Chad, the Logone, Maroua, Lere, Binder, Bibemi, Rei-Bouba, etc. Conover 1106: 'The American edition comprises the two books by this distinguished literary man, Voyage au Congo and Retour du Tschad. . . Gide's long trip in the French tropical colony, made by boat, car, tipoye, on hors and foot was semiofficial in character. . . Gide was horrified by his findings and presented a challenging indictment of the callous exploitation of the Africans. . .
