Alfred Lorenzer und Bernard Görlich stellen in ihrer gedankenreichen Einleitung fest: »Das hysterische Unglück [.] ist [.] eingebunden in einen ganz bestimmten kulturellen Zusammenhang [.]. Was dem analytisch Verstehenden zu Ohren kommt. Ist die Darstellung eines Leidenszusammenhangs, in dem Bedürfnisse, Wünsche, intime Lebensentwürfe auf der einen, Normen, Gebote und Verbote auf der anderen Seite miteinander in Widerstreit geraten sind. Diese Konfliktstruktur zieht von vornherein die soziokulturelle Dimension ins Spiel [.].« Wer die Schriften des vorliegenden Bandes studiert, wird nachvollziehen können, wie sich Freuds Auffassung von der Wechselwirkung Individuum/Kultur im Laufe der Jahrzehnte differenzierte. Gemeinsam ist allen Arbeiten die These vom Antagonismus zwischen Kultur und Triebleben. Während in den frühen Arbeiten dieser Antagonismus noch als vorwiegend den Sexualtrieb betreffendes Gegeneinander von Luststreben und moralischem Verbot konzipiert wird, hat Freud später den Brennpunkt mehr und mehr auf den Aggressions- und Selbstvernichtungstrieb gerichtet. Diese Verlagerung begründet die staunenswerte Aktualität des Freudschen kulturtheoretischen Denkens in unserer Zeit. - Sigmund Freud (* 6. Mai 1856 in Freiberg, Mähren damals Kaisertum Österreich, tschechisch Príbor; 23. September 1939 in London), ursprünglich Sigismund Schlomo Freud, war ein bedeutender österreichischer Arzt, Tiefenpsychologe und Religionskritiker, der als Begründer der Psychoanalyse weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte. Freud gilt als einer der einflussreichsten Denker des 20. Jahrhunderts; seine Theorien und Methoden werden noch immer kontrovers diskutiert. . Die Entstehung der Psychoanalyse: Von Psychoanalyse" sprach Sigmund Freud erstmals im Jahr 1896, und zwar als dem etwas subtilen Ausforschungsverfahren von Josef Breuer"; diesem war es in der Behandlung von Bertha Pappenheim gelungen, deren Symptome aufzulösen, indem er Pappenheim die eigentlichen Traumatisierungen, die sich hinter ihren Symptomen verbargen, aufspüren und aussprechen ließ. Es ging um die Benennung dessen, was sie tatsächlich an Verletzung, Kränkung, Ekel, Entwertung, Gewalt u.s.w. erlebt hatte, jedoch aufgrund der 'guten Erziehung' nicht benennen durfte. Breuers Vorgehen entsprach ziemlich exakt demjenigen des König Ödipus im Theaterstück von Sophokles: Ödipus durchdringt mit großer Aufrichtigkeit am Ende die wahren Zusammenhänge. Schiller hatte 1797 in einem Brief an Goethe den König Ödipus eine tragische Analysis" benannt, weil aus der Rückschau die Zusammenhänge aufgelöst werden. Breuer schlug in einem Brief an Freud vor, zur Betonung dieser Parallele das entwickelte Verfahren Psychoanalyse" zu benennen. (Der Brief ist, wie viele andere Dokumente über Freud, bis zum Jahr 2113 von der Veröffentlichung ausgeschlossen; die Kenntnis von dessen Inhalt stammt aus einer zuverlässigen Quelle.) Bis zum September 1897 nannte Freud sein Verfahren mehrfach Psychoanalyse", hielt aber dabei immerhin an dem Prinzip der Breuerschen Behandlung fest, indem er seine Patienten Gewalterfahrungen erforschen und benennen ließ. Jedoch war er in dieser Zeit sehr einseitig fixiert auf Gewalt sexueller Natur, konkretisierte zuletzt als Vergewaltigung durch den Vater im Alter zwischen 2 und 8 Jahren. Diesen (extrem einseitigen) Ansatz verwarf er dann im September 1897 (Brief an Fließ) und verkehrte ihn quasi in sein Gegenteil: Jetzt behauptete er, die außer Kontrolle geratenen triebhaften Wünsche und Phantasien des Kindes gegen seine Eltern seien der Ursprung psychischer und psychosomatischer Störungen. Einen Monat später formulierte er gegenüber Wilhelm Fließ nach selbstanalytischen Betrachtungen erstmals die These vom Ödipus-Komplex": Er postulierte das Phänomen unbewusster libidinöser Bindungen zur eigenen Mutter bei einem gleichzeitigen Rivalitätsverhältnis zum Vater. Am 4. November 1899 erscheint Freuds frühes Hauptwerk, Die Traumdeutung, vordatiert auf 1900. Es folgen in kurzen Abständen die Schriften Zur Psychopathologie des Alltagslebens (1901), Der Witz und seine Beziehung zum Unbewußten (1905) und Drei Abhandlungen zur Sexualtheorie (1905). Zum 1. April 1902 wird Freud zum außerordentlichen Titular-Professor ernannt. Im gleichen Jahr gründet er die Psychologische Mittwochs-Gesellschaft", aus der 1908 die Wiener Psychoanalytische Vereinigung hervorgehen wird: Alfred Adler, Wilhelm Stekel und andere frühe Schüler versammeln sich jede Woche in seiner Wohnung zur Erlernung der neuen Methode und Diskussion. Im Laufe der nächsten Jahre schließen sich Paul Federn, Carl Gustav Jung, Otto Rank, Sándor Ferenczi und andere der Gruppe an. 1908 beruft Freud den ersten psychoanalytischen Kongress nach Salzburg ein. Hier kommt es zu einem leisen Eklat: Otto Gross, ein Psychiater, der sich schon seit einigen Jahren öffentlich für Freuds Lehre einsetzt, zieht gesellschaftspolitische Schlussfolgerungen aus ihr. Freud, der sich kurz zuvor in seiner Schrift Die kulturelle' Sexualmoral und die moderne Nervosität konträr geäussert hatte, setzt dem entgegen, dass dies nicht Aufgabe von Ärzten sei, und sorgt dafür, dass Gross aus der Gruppe gedrängt und aus ihren Annalen getilgt wird. 1910 gründet Freud die.
