Leather Bound. First Edition. 4to's., measuring 7.25" x 10.25". Uniformly bound in stamped, textured, black leather with gilt lettering, rules and decoration to the spine and boards, all gilt edges. Replete with a rich variety of black-and-white, and colour maps, photographs, engravings, illustrations, charts, tables, drawings, fold-outs, etc., and all accompanied with their immaculately-preserved original tissue-guards. This iteration published in the same year as the termination of the publisher's relationship with Scientific American. Our offering comprises of nineteen of twenty volumes, regrettably lacking Volume II only. Excepting a touch of light rubbing to the leather, the extremities are well-preserved with little evidence of wear. Internally, the contents remain entirely without blemish with bright, clean, and unmarked pages. Overall, very good+, to, near fine. Scarce in commerce in this, the 1911 Edition, and in this condition. A thoroughly lovely, and well-preserved edition of this venerable American encyclopedia.
