Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Near Fine. Evanston, IL: Clark Publishing Company, 1957. The July, 1957 issue of Fate Magazine, Volume 10, Number 7, whole number 88. An early issue in Raymond A. Palmer's now-legendary paranormal-reporting non-fiction enterprise, which began with, in its first issue, Kenneth Arnold…'s cover account of flying crescents which "skipped like saucers across a pond", an event which, for whatever reason, kicked off the modern era of UFO events. After that, Fate introduced countless events which remain, to this day, fodder for paranormal documentaries and investigation. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 130 pp. Near Fine - in fact, very Near Fine, with just touching at spine ends (scan), and two pinpricks in rear cover (scan). Standard fifties-pulps age-toning to the pages, which, of course, remain supple. Very High grade condition for a periodical which often shows substantial wear from use. Uncredited cover art depicts two buxom and bare-breasted Crete ladies; their two male companions could be Chesterfield dancers, today. In fact, that's a fairly accurate depiction, at least based on ancient wall art - though our historical enlightenment was probably not the reason for this cover art choice. See the scanned image of the contents page for the articles herein, which cover such topics as John Keely's Free Energy Machine, based on a technology which still has a following; Ancient Crete (cover); When the Egyptians Discovered America; Mount Glastenbury (VT) Disappearances; the Old Lady of Ballachulish; Frank Edwards Report; the Tragic Ship Palatine; Ghost Miners; and of course much, much else, including the standard Departments, always engrossing in themselves, all on various other paranormal or inexplicable phenomena. Interior art and photography is largely uncredited. A piece of paranormal history, and an example of a unique branch of Americana, in very highly collectible condition. Scarce item. Please see scans. l40n.
