Colour plates and b/w illustrations by Milton C. Weiler. Black cloth, colour vignette laid-on to upper board, gilt titles and decoration to upper board and spine, top edge gilt. Edition limited to 950 copies. Gilt titles faded as usual, inscription to front end-paper else very good. Signed author's presentation copy to sporting book collector, Paul Mellon. Number 645 of 950 copies. Essays on the art and philosophy of trout fishing in New England. Only 950 copies of this first edition were printed, selling out very quickly and being reprinted by The Macmillan Company the same year. The slightly unusual plasticised cloth used in the binding reacted badly with the gilt lettering and it seems that all known copies have rather faded gilt titles. .
