Anna May Cornell was a home economist and writer working within the tradition of branded domestic science publicati…ons that flourished throughout the first half of the twentieth century. Her professional background in home economics gave her work the practical authority and credibility that manufacturers sought when commissioning instructional publications intended to help consumers get the most from their appliances while building confidence in and loyalty to the brand. Home economists working in this capacity occupied a respected professional role during this period, serving as a bridge between the technical capabilities of consumer products and the practical needs and knowledge of the domestic user. Your New Westinghouse Electric Refrigerator is a promotional and instructional publication produced by the Canadian Westinghouse Company in 1949, combining practical guidance on the care and operation of the refrigerator with a collection of recipes designed to help the new owner make full use of their appliance.
