Our copy is VG: the leather somewhat chaffed at the joints, corners bumped, binding solid, pencil to endpapers, foxing throughout - moderate (text still quite legible). A fairly clean, solid, and presentable copy. Provenance: purchased some years back from artist Claes Oldenburg, via one of his assistants, and now available for a song.

With the royal bookplate of Antoine d'Orléans (1824-1890), Duke of Montpensier, who was the youngest son of King Louis Philippe of France and his wife Maria Amelia Teresa of the Two Sicilies. He was a noted early collector of photography. Bound in full vellum, gilt rules and lettering, marbled end papers, top edge gilt, ribbon marker. Near Fine, light soiling to vellum, end papers a bit toned. cxiii, 259 pp., with frontis engraving, 5 engravings and 4 engraved musical plates in text. Attributed to the Marquis Joseph-Etienne de Surville (1755-1798), a descendant of Clotilde. A lovely copy with distinguished provenance.
