Soft cover. Condition: Good. Softcover. Stiff, cardstock-like covers, stapled at the fold. 8 3/4 x 11 3/8 inches, 16 pages, in good condition. Illustrated throughout, in black-and-white and with technical drawings, with images of chain and chain components. Pages 3-4 contain a labeled black-and-white illustration of the P.I.V. gear with its cover removed, showing the location of its important components - speed control hand wheel, operating lever, speed indicator, chain, drain plug and others. Pages 5-6 give short descriptions of the workings of some of the parts of the P.I.V. gear, namely the chain, the wheels, the drive and the speed controls. Page 7 contains two black-and-white photographs of the P.I.V. chain at maximum and minimum wheel diameter. Page 8 contains two black-and-white illustrations that show the wheel side and the reverse side of the chain; page 9 has black-and-white illustrations that show individual components of the chain, such as the hardened steel joint pin, the segmental bushings, the slat pack, and the spring-steel clip. Pages 10-11 contain a black-and-white illustration of the complete P.I.V. gear with cover, alongside a list of the superior features of the gear. Pages 12-13 contain three technical drawings and a table. Specifically, two technical drawings on page 12 give a sectional elevation and a floor plan for the gear, while the drawing on page 13 is a labeled one that, when the letters representing each side of the gear are matched with their corresponding letter on the table, give the physical dimensions of the gear. Page 14 contains a table of speed and horsepower for varying sizes of the gear; table measures ratio of speed variation, normal speed of constant speed shaft (in RPM), variable speed shaft (in maximum speed in RPM and minimum speed in RPM), horsepower output at maximum and minimum speed, and the model number of and number of links in each P.I.V. chain. Back cover is protected by a plain brown sheet of paper. Front cover is water-damaged and heavily marred along spine. Back cover has darkened moderately around edges. Edges and corners of covers show moderate wear, with some creasing. Front cover bears the cataloging number 621.85, written in pencil, in the top left corner. Front free endpaper has the date January 28, 1931, stamped in ink in the top right corner, indicating its date of receipt by a catalogue library. Pages have separated entirely from binding, and have toned slightly, but are clean and free of pen or pencil markings. The Link-Belt Company, a manufacturer of industrial equipment, was based in Chicago, Illinois. $15.
