Il fut pourchassé par les Allemands pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il est un des écrivains trop méconnus de la première moitié du 20ème siècle. Il a influencé les écrivains de son époque et a été ami avec beaucoup de peintres et musiciens de son temps. Ses biographies le rapprochent d'un Zweig français. Très bon état.
