"Historically, the Scottish Staple at Veere (sometimes called "Campvere") was a significant trade agreement and a major hub for Scottish commerce in the Netherlands from the 15th century onward. The Scottish government designated Veere as the sole ("staple") Dutch port where Scottish merchants could import goods, primarily wool, and other items like coal and leather. The town's prosperity and importance declined with the ending of the Scottish Staple system at the end of the 18th century.
