Includes chronoly and index of lenders. Usual ex-library markings. Cover edgeworn with shallow creases and light stains. "This exhibition of Victor Pasmore's work spans a period of almost forty years. Thanks to the generosity of owners and, in particular, of private owners, it has been possible to include many works which have not been on public exhibition for a number of years and will be unknown to many visitors. This is especially the case with the group of exploratory works which form a bridge between the early, representational paintings in the more recent work and demonstrate that the move towards a greater degree of abstraction was a change of emphasis and not an abrupt change of direction. The artist himself has always been at pains to emphasize the common factors uniting all his work: the relationship between his town planning work at Peterlee - here shown in photographs - and the constructions, is evident. Less evident but even more intriguing is Pasmore's explanation of some of the first constructions as essentially a restatement in more formal terms of the roses which he had been painting shortly before." - Norman Reid in his introduction.
