Manuscript / Paper Collectible
A scarce example of a Victorian ream wrapper, the ephemeral cover used by paper manufacturers to protect reams of paper from dust and dirt. This example is remarkably well-preserved, with colors crisp and bright. It has been chromolithographed to advertise the manufacturer, R.C. Lepage & Co. of Calcutta and London, for their "Superfine, Highly Glazed" thick blue wove paper in the size "Large Letter". Elaborate design with decorative device at border and symmetrically displayed vines in the background. Further contemporary ink notes on the verso show the paper maker's process: "Large + Sm 4to" and "1 Electro each Block Pricing etc. 19/= Cutting to small 4to 1/=". Single sheet, chromolithographed, measuring approx. 10" by 8" Very good. Minor nicks to edges, letter creases. Colors bright and crisp.
