Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. WE STILL CALL IT HOME, ORAL HISTORY IN THE VISTA VERDE SOUTH PROJECT AREA, David O. Brown and Sarah B. Burkhalter, with contributions by Gilberto M. Hinojosa and Ray Sanchez, softcover, a few illustrations, plastic comb binding, 1986. BOOK CONDITION: near fine. The text block is in fine condition, with no tears, marks, or dog-ears. Inscribed by one author on the title page. Not a remainder nor library book. No bookplate nor signature of prior owner. The wraps are in near fine condition. 11 x 8 ½, 122 pages, 16 ounces. XX Abstract: "The oral history study reported here is part of a larger study of the history and archaeology of the Vista Verde South Project Area, a small west side neighborhood [of San Antonio TX] which has been partially destroyed and the former residents largely relocated as a part of a federally assisted urban renewal project. While the other studies, among them architectural and historical studies by DeLara-Almond, Inc., and Lynn Osborne Bobbitt, and archaeological studies by Anne Fox and Joseph Labadie of the University of Texas at San Antonio, have focused on the significant events and structures which figured in the neighborhood's history, this study concentrates on the people of the project area. After a brief introduction to the history of the neighborhood, drawn largely from secondary historical sources, and a brief look at the modern neighborhood and its inhabitants, the report introduces a number of interview excerpts organized along the lines of some of the major influences within the community, including economy, religious life, social life, culture, education and land tenure. The report concludes with some brief excerpts on the feelings of people living in the neighborhood and a final section in which the authors summarize some of the major points which stood out in many of the interviews, not all of which could be included in the body of the report. These final sections reiterate the people's struggle against prejudice and economic oppression and their ultimate triumphs. Inscribed by Author(s).
