Signed by Gray on the front fly. Young widower lawyer meets a woman at a Minnesota resort town that was previously a logging camp. A presentable copy.

A nice copy! 8vo.,dark-blue cloth in dust jacket; 412 pages First Edition, first printing (so stated). Signed presentation from Gray on the front endpaper: "To Porter Welch, Esq., Sincerely James Gray." With a 1936 letter (little browning) from the publisher forwarding this autographed copy to Porter Welch, owner of the Shaker Book Shop in Cleveland, Ohio. The envelope for the letter and the mailing label for the box containing the book are also present. A novel with a Minnesota setting. Gray [1899-1984] was an English professor at the University of Minnesota. He joined the staff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch in 1920 and later became literary editor with the Chicago Daily News. While in Chicago he also taught creative writing and English at the University of Chicago. In 1948 he returned to the University of Minnesota and proceeded to write several looks about the university and Minnesota. In 1964 the University of Minnesota awarded Gray its Outstanding Achievement Award. I believe this is his only novel and is uncommon in nice condition and signed by the author. Signed.
