Hardcover. Condition: Very good +. Dust Jacket Condition: near fine. First Edition. Large octavo, 127pp., illustrated. A very good or better copy in the publisher's burgundy boards, slightly shaken, with spine gently cocked. in a near fine dust jacket, gently sunned on the spine. A meaningful association copy, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Thompson on the half-title page to Evans's second wife, Isabelle Boschenstein: "For Isabelle, Who knows a lot more about this subject than I do. Fondly, Jerry 11/97." Laid in is a note, also written by Thompson, addressed to her: "November 5. Dear Isabelle, It was a pleasure to see you. Thanks again for coming to the party. Stanley is Stanley Baron, Thames and Hudson [he gives his address in London] My best to you and Jim, Jerry." Isabelle and Walker Evans were married for about a decade; she was just leaving his life around the time that Thompson was entering it, and that period is discussed in some detail in the book. A significant association copy.
