Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This is a professionally rebound copy of the 1832 Carey and Lea, Philadelphia edition. Currently bound in brown, title stapled in gold on spine, lovely new end papers. The interior is the original with 476 pages including an index , and twenty original fold-out plates bound in.The front gutter, following the title page, is split the bottom 3 inches. Then, following the Contents, it is split the top seven inches. However this has not affected the remainder of the book, which is tight and the back gutter is in tact. Following the title page is Reid's original dedication to the Duke of Sussex from the 1826 Edinburgh edition, then the Preface, Contents, 451 pages of text, the Index and Plates. Very light stamps "Property of the New York Society Library, Withdrawn" are at beginning and end of the book. A circular sticker about an inch in diameter of apparent former owner,Rodney V. Councell, Watch and Clockmaker.The pages have age discoloring but are not brittle and are quite readable.The book measures 61/2" X 11".
